ISR Swim Lessons
Today was the last day of ISR swim lessons and the slide was “magically fixed.” What a great way to end the summer!
If you have a pool, know someone who does, or are around water, I HIGHLY recommend ISR (Infant Swimming Resource) lessons for your children! It’s definitely a commitment, but your child’s life is worth it.
ISR teaches kids how to survive if they accidentally fall into water, by using a float or float-swim-float sequence. The lessons are for children ages 6 months to 6 years and I’d recommend doing them as early as you can (spots fill up super quick too, like in February for the summer quick).
Why a back float? Until a child is about 4 years of age, it is unproductive and too fatiguing for him to try to pull his head up from the water while swimming to breathe and maintain that position for any significant period of time. Because babies and young children have a large percentage of their body size and weight in their heads, when they lift their heads while swimming, their feet immediately drop, leaving them in a more vertical position that is difficult, if not impossible, to maintain until they can be rescued from the water.
We plan to enroll Mac next year, and will have Murphy do refresher lessons. Water safety is so important and with several family members having pools, and our love for the lake and the beach, ISR lessons is a no brainer.
